WHEREAS, the Officer Wellness and Mental Health Grant Program established in the 2022 Budget Act (Assembly Bill 178, Chapter 45, Statutes of 2022) provides $50 million for city and county law enforcement agencies for the purpose of improving officer wellness and expanding mental health resources; and

WHEREAS, 394 agencies are receiving funds from this grant program; and

WHEREAS, funding may be used for any of the following purposes: establishing or expanding officer wellness units, establishing or expanding peer support units, services provided by licensed mental health professional, counselor or the professional that works with law enforcement, expanding multiagency mutual aid programs focused on officer wellness and mental health, and other programs of services that are evidence-based or have a successful track record of enhancing officer wellness; and

WHEREAS, the grant funding will be used to amend the operating budget of the Police Department for Fiscal Year 2022-2023; and

WHEREAS, acceptance of this grant meets Strategic Goal #3 by rendering skilled police, fire and emergency service management; and

WHEREAS, staff recommends the acceptance of $53,358.28 in grant funding from the State of California for Officer Wellness and Mental Health.

NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the City Council of the City of South San Francisco hereby accepts $53,358.28 in grant funding from the State of California for Officer Wellness and Mental Health.

BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, that the City Council amends the Fiscal Year 2022-2023 Police Department Operating Budget to reflect an increase of $53,358.28 by approving Budget Amendment #23.052.
