Resolution authorizing the acceptance of $35,000 in grant funding from the Silicon Valley Community Foundation to support Project Read’s Volunteer Income Tax Assistance (VITA) and Financial Literacy Resource programs and amending the Library Department’s Fiscal Year 2021-2022 Operating Budget via Budget Amendment 22.030.

WHEREAS, the City of South San Francisco (“City”) Library Department established Project Read to assist adults and their families in reaching educational goals; and
WHEREAS, the strengthening of learning opportunities and racial and social equity are included in the City’s Strategic Plan under Priority #3: Quality of Life; and
WHEREAS, the Silicon Valley Community Foundation has awarded $35,000 in grant funding to Project Read to support VITA and Financial Literacy Resource programs; and
WHEREAS, VITA allows Project Read to assist low income tax payers in South San Francisco to file their income tax returns free of charge; and
WHEREAS, the Financial Literacy Resource Program will support Project Read to provide financial literacy education resources to residents of South San Francisco and neighboring communities; and
WHEREAS, grant funds will be used to amend the Fiscal Year 2021-2022 operating budget of the Library Department through Budget Amendment 22.030.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED by the City Council of the City of South San Francisco that the City Council hereby accepts $35,000 in grant funding from the Silicon Valley Community Foundation to support Project Read’s VITA and Financial Literacy Resource programs and approves Budget Amendment 22.030.
