Resolution authorizing the acceptance of $30,250 from the California State Library to support Project Read through the Family Literacy Services (FLS) program and amending the Library Department’s Fiscal Year 2021 - 2022 Operating Budget and approving Budget Amendment 22.020

WHEREAS, the City of South San Francisco (“City”) Library Department established Project Read to assist adults and their families in reaching literacy goals; and

 

WHEREAS, the California State Library has awarded the Library $30,250 to support Project Read’s FLS programs; and

 

WHEREAS, FLS programs support low-literacy parents and their children in North San Mateo County by providing story times, free books, learning activities, learning workshops, and parenting classes for Project Read participants; and

 

WHEREAS, funding will be used to strengthen our FLS programs through staff training, community outreach and offering services to existing and new clients; and

 

WHEREAS, staff recommends the acceptance of funding in the amount of $30,250 from the California State Library to support Project Read’s FLS programs; and

 

WHEREAS, the foregoing funds will be used to amend this year’s operating budget of the Library Department.

 

NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED by the City Council of the City of South San Francisco that the City Council hereby accepts $30,250 from the California State Library to support Project Read’s FLS programs, and amends the Library Department’s FY 2021-22 operating budget through Budget Amendment 22.020 in order to reflect an increase of $30,250.
