Resolution approving and authorizing the City Manager to enter into a Lease Agreement with the California Department of Transportation to allow for the subsurface installation of tie back supports adjacent to State Route 82 (El Camino Real) as part of the construction of the Civic Campus project.

WHEREAS, in 2019 staff from the City of South San Francisco and the California Department of Transportation (“Caltrans”) began negotiating the terms of an agreement to allow for temporary encroachment onto Caltrans property for the purpose of erecting a structural system for the Community Civic Campus - Phase 2 project; and

 

WHEREAS, the proposed lease rate of $38,000 for the two-year term is in line with other project-related Caltrans lease agreements of this nature; and

 

WHEREAS, the City of South San Francisco and Caltrans wish to enter into a two-year lease agreement to allow the temporary installation of components of a structural system below State Route 82, which is a necessary part of the plan for construction of the Community Civic Campus, which is adjacent to the roadway; and

 

WHEREAS, staff recommends that the City enter into the proposed lease with Caltrans to allow the Community Civic Campus project to continue progress toward construction.

 

NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the City Council of South San Francisco hereby approves and authorizes the City Manager to enter into a Lease Agreement with the California Department of Transportation, attached as Exhibit A, to allow for the subsurface installation of tie back supports adjacent to State Route 82 (El Camino Real) as part of the construction of the Civic Campus project.

 

BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the City Manager is authorized to make any revisions, amendments, or modifications to the Lease Agreement, deemed necessary to carry out the intent of this resolution which do not materially alter or increase the City’s obligations thereunder, subject to approval as to form by the City Attorney; and to take any other related action necessary to further the intent of this resolution.
