WHEREAS, the Department of Resources Recycling and Recovery (CalRecycle) administers the Beverage Container Recycling City/County Payment Program pursuant to Public Resources Code Section 14581(a)(3)(A) of the California Beverage Container Recycling and Litter Reduction Act; and

WHEREAS, the purpose of this payment program is to support local beverage container recycling and litter-reduction activities and to assist the State in maintaining an 80 percent recycling rate for California Refund Value (CRV) beverage containers; and

WHEREAS, for fiscal year 2025-26, CalRecycle is distributing $10.5 million to eligible cities and counties, with allocation amounts based on January 1, 2023, population estimates; and

WHEREAS, the City of South San Francisco is eligible to receive $16,446 for fiscal year (FY) 2025-26 to support beverage container recycling activities; and

WHEREAS, since FY 2005-06, the City of South San Francisco has effectively utilized these funds to enhance recycling programs, including the installation of multi-stream collection receptacles in the downtown area, Brentwood Shopping Center, city parks, and City facilities; and

WHEREAS, the City proposes to use the FY 2025-26 funds to support the City's existing Bigbelly dual-stream waste and recycling units, purchase new units as needed, and provide recycling education and outreach materials; and
