Resolution authorizing the acceptance of one Spectrum Light Lab table valued at $2,300.00 from the EmPOWERing Access Project, a collaborative initiative supported by the Southern California Library Cooperative and the California State Library.

WHEREAS, the City of South San Francisco Library Department is dedicated to assisting all residents in locating and accessing information; and
WHEREAS, the South San Francisco Public Library has been selected to participate in the EmPOWERing Access Project, a California State Library initiative supported by the U.S. Institute of Museum and Library Services (IMLS) under the Library Services and Technology Act (LSTA); and
WHEREAS, as part of the program, the library will receive one Spectrum Light Lab table designed for children ages 2 and older that allows them to explore the science of light and color through hands on exploration; and
WHEREAS, staff recommends the acceptance of one Spectrum Light Lab table valued at $2,300.00 from the EmPOWERing Access Project; and
WHEREAS, adoption of this resolution will contribute to the City Council’s Priorities Action Plan’s Major Focus Area of Welcoming and Connected Community by supporting community engagement and learning opportunities in a creative way; and
WHEREAS, the equipment is provided at no cost to the City, and receipt of these funds does not commit the City to ongoing funding other than adding play and learn materials and accessories to spark curiosity and explore ideas.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED, that the City Council of the City of South San Francisco does hereby accept one Spectrum Light Lab table valued at $2,300.00 from the EmPOWERing Access Project of the Southern California Library Cooperative and the California State Library.
