Resolution accepting $250,000 from Genentech, Inc. to support the 2026 Concert in the Park event and America250 July 4 Celebration.

WHEREAS, Genentech, Inc. ("Genentech") is a globally recognized biotechnology company founded in South San Francisco in 1976; and
WHEREAS, in recognition of Genentech's 50th anniversary and its historic roots in the City of South San Francisco ("City"), Genentech has offered sponsorship funding totaling $250,000 to support community events hosted by the City; and
WHEREAS, the City's annual Concert in the Park event at Orange Memorial Park is the City's largest annual community event, bringing together thousands of residents and visitors for live music, entertainment, food, family activities, and community engagement; and
WHEREAS, the City is also planning a Fourth of July celebration in recognition of the national America250 initiative commemorating the 250th anniversary of the founding of the United States, which will include community activities, entertainment, and civic engagement opportunities; and
WHEREAS, Genentech has designated that up to $50,000 of the sponsorship funding may be used to support the City's America250 Fourth of July celebration, with the remaining funding supporting the 2026 Concert in the Park event; and
WHEREAS, acceptance of this funding will allow the City to enhance community programming, improve the attendee experience, and further the City Council's Priorities Action Plan Major Focus Area of a "Welcoming and Connected Community"; and
WHEREAS, any unspent sponsorship funding will be returned to Genentech pursuant to the terms of the Letter of Agreement.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the City Council of the City of South San Francisco hereby accepts $250,000 in funding from Genentech, Inc. to support the 2026 Concert in the Park event and the America250 July 4 Celebration.
