It is recommended that the Cultural Arts Commission receive an update on the progress of the new Farmers’ Market performing arts project and the results of an accompanying survey.

Body

BACKGROUND/DISCUSSION

The Agriculture and Artistry Farmers’ Market Performing Arts Project was initiated as a means of giving opportunities to local performing artists while also further exposing the community to the arts. The program is designed to feature a performing artist or group at the South San Francisco Farmers’ Market each Saturday, beginning sometime in the Fall.  Note, at the time of this report the official start date of these performances has not been confirmed; a call for artists is expected to be released by the beginning of September 2025.

On July 18, 2025, a survey regarding the Farmers’ Market was launched. The goal of the survey was to gain insight into how performing arts at the Market might affect attendance, as well as how it may impact vendors. The survey, which was circulated via social media, newsletters, flyer distribution aat various events and City facilities, closed on August 15, 2025.  A total of 174 responses were received.
