Resolution authorizing the acceptance of $34,750 in grant funding from the California State Library to support Project Read through the Family Literacy Services program and approving Budget Amendment 21.015.

WHEREAS, the City of South San Francisco (“City”) Library Department established Project Read to assist adults and their families in reaching literacy goals; and

 

WHEREAS, the California State Library has awarded the Library a grant in the amount of $34,750 to support Project Read’s Family Literacy Services program; and

 

WHEREAS, the Family Literacy Services (FLS) program supports low literate parents and their children in North San Mateo County by providing story times, free books to build home libraries, learning activities, learning workshops, and parenting classes for existing and new Project Read participants; and

 

WHEREAS, grant funding will be used to strengthen the FLS program through staff training, community outreach and offering enhanced services to existing and new clients; and

 

WHEREAS, staff recommends the acceptance of grant funding in the amount of $34,750 from the California State Library to support the Project Read FLS program; and

 

WHEREAS, the foregoing grant funds will be used to amend this year’s operating budget of the Library Department.

 

NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED by the City Council of the City of South San Francisco that the City Council hereby accepts $34,750 in grant funding from the California State Library and amends the Library Department’s Fiscal Year 2020-2021 operating budget through Budget Amendment 21.015 in order to reflect an increase of $34,750.
