Resolution Authorizing Acceptance of a $150,000 Grant Award and Execution of a Grant Agreement with the California Office of Traffic Safety for the fiscal year 2025-26 Pedestrian and Bicycle Safety Program and Approving Budget Amendment Number 26.040

WHEREAS, the City of South San Francisco completed a Local Road Safety Plan (LRSP) in 2022 identifying school-zone speed reduction as a critical safety strategy; and
WHEREAS, the City applied to the California Office of Traffic Safety (OTS) for funding to implement pedestrian and bicycle safety initiatives, including school-zone speed compliance and safety education; and
WHEREAS, OTS has awarded the City $150,000 for the Pedestrian and Bicycle Safety Program; and
WHEREAS, implementation of the grant includes deployment of radar speed feedback trailers, traffic safety outreach, Safe Routes to School participation, and data-driven program evaluation; and
WHEREAS, the City must execute the OTS Grant Agreement to receive funding; and
WHEREAS, a budget amendment is required to appropriate the $150,000 grant revenue and corresponding expenditures in fiscal year 2025-26.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the City Council of the City of South San Francisco hereby:
1. Accepts the $150,000 grant award from the California Office of Traffic Safety for the fiscal year 2025-26 Pedestrian and Bicycle Safety Program (PS26062);
2. Authorizes the City Manager, or designee, to execute the grant agreement and any necessary amendments consistent with program intent;
3. Approves Budget Amendment Number 26.040 to recognize grant revenue and expenditures in the fiscal year 2025-26 budget; and
4. Authorizes the City Manager to take actions necessary to implement the program consistent with the staff report and the OTS Grant Agreement.
