It is recommended that the City Council adopt a resolution authorizing the acceptance of $14,500 in grant funding from the California Water Service Firefighter Grant Program to purchase wildland firefighting personal protective equipment and approve budget amendment 22.056 amending the Fire Department's Fiscal Year 2021-2022 Operating Budget.

BACKGROUND/DISCUSSION
The South San Francisco Fire Department (SSFFD) has been awarded $14,500 from the California Water Service Firefighter Grant Program to purchase wildland firefighting turnout pants for fire crew personal protective equipment (PPE). California Water Service has been offering firefighter grants since 2019 to fire departments within their service areas to offset costs associated with fire protection efforts, equipment, training and education. This is a no-match grant and will fully fund the purchase of this equipment without requiring department funds.

Through this grant, SSFFD can provide life-saving gear needed to keep our staff and communities safe. Wildland gear is used during incidents both in and out of South San Francisco when responding to brush fires and, on larger scale forest fires. Purchase of wildland PPE will provide department members with PPE that meets or exceeds industry standards for safety. Funds will be used to purchase wildland PPE designed to keep members safe when operating in and around vegetation fires.

FISCAL IMPACT
