It is recommended that the Cultural Arts Commission receive an update on the 2025 Jack Drago Youth Art Internship.

Body

BACKGROUND/DISCUSSION

As previously shared with the Commission, the Cultural Arts Program is launching the inaugural Jack Drago Youth Art Internship for Summer 2025. This paid internship is designed to support and uplift the next generation of artists in South San Francisco by offering a hands-on learning experience in the public arts sector.  Open to one senior or junior residing in South San Francisco or attending school with the South San Francisco Unified School District (SSFUSD), this internship offers an immersive experience working alongside City staff and arts professionals, gaining direct exposure to arts administration, and community engagement.  Over the course of the internship, the selected youth intern will participate in a pre-designed project with a focus in either visual arts or performing arts, depending on their interests and strengths.

Applications are being accepted now through 5:00 p.m. on Tuesday, May 6, 2025, or until the first 100 applications are received, whichever comes first. Eligible applicants will be invited to participate in interviews, tentatively scheduled for the week of May 12, 2025. The internship will run during the summer months, with the intern expected to work approximately 20 hours per week as a part-time City employee.

This exciting internship reflects the Commission’s ongoing commitment to providing skill-building opportunities for our youth with interest in the arts.  Staff will continue to update the Commission on program progress and outcomes.
