RECOMMENDATION

Recommendation

It is recommended that the Cultural Arts Commission (CAC) approve the use of Cultural Arts Donation Funds to replenish CAC fundraising apparel in an amount not to exceed $5,000 dollars.

Body

BACKGROUND/DISCUSSION

The Cultural Arts Commission maintains a dedicated Donation Account, which has traditionally been used to fund community-oriented activities that are not eligible for funding under the City’s General Fund.  Examples of past uses of the Donation Account include awards for our quarterly juried art exhibitions, and scholarship opportunities.

As part of the fundraising efforts, the Commission has most recently offered gray hooded sweatshirts and blankets, branded with a design featuring the iconic “Wind Harp” sculpture and text “South San Francisco.” These items have been popular at events and in general throughout the past two years.

With inventory of these items now beginning to run low, staff propose working with the Fundraising Subcommittee to place a new apparel order featuring the same design.  The purchase of new inventory would ensure continued fundraising opportunities in general and for upcoming events, such as the Concert in the Park on September 20, 2025.

CONCLUSION

Staff recommends the Commission approve funds from the Cultural Arts Donation account, in an amount not to exceed $5,000 dollars, be used to purchase fundraising replenishments for the Cultural Arts Commission.
