Recommendation
It is recommended commissioners determine which upcoming City events to attend to engage community members.

BACKGROUND/DISCUSSION
Per Article V, section d. Liaison for the Community: The Commission will act as a liaison between the community and City staff, offering strategies to develop and implement sound community public safety concepts, increase public awareness, and further efforts of transparency and accountability.

Additionally, per Article V, section e. Other arenas: The Commission will utilize community voice not only to address concerns regarding policing but also other equity and public safety arenas that impact quality of life and safeguard against disaster, crime, and other threats or danger to civilian protections.

As stated within its bylaws, the Commission is to act as a "liaison" between the community and city staff and as an advisory body to the City Manager and City Council. To represent the community, the Commission will need to identify opportunities to engage with the community members. Attending community events can be an efficient way to engage with several, diverse members of the community from different backgrounds, with different perspectives, and of different socioeconomic circumstances. Because the commissioners also have busy personal, professional, and social lives outside of their regular commissioner responsibilities, coupled with the start of the summer season (along with personal vacations), commissioners should identify which upcoming community events they would like to attend to extract feedback from local attendees.
