Recommendation
It is recommended that the City Council adopt a resolution accepting $35,733.57 in donations, sponsorships, and proceeds net of the associated expenses from the 30th Annual Trivia Challenge to support the Library Department’s Project Read Program, amending the Library Department’s Fiscal Year (FY) 2023-24 Operating Budget by $21,500 to enhance Project Read’s programs and services and approving Budget Amendment Number 24.040.

BACKGROUND/DISCUSSION
The Library has received $35,733.57 from local businesses, community groups, individuals, and others including those mentioned below, to support Project Read literacy programs and services via the Annual Trivia Challenge Event. Project Read provides services to children, families, and adults through program components, including Adult Reading and Writing Tutoring, Families for Literacy, Financial Wellbeing, and Learning Wheels. On December 8, 2023, Project Read held the 30th Anniversary of the Annual Trivia Challenge with 20 competing teams and nearly 300 participants. Gross revenue from the event included sponsorships, donations, a silent auction, a raffle, and team and dinner fees, totaling $55,671. After expenses of $19,937.43, the net Income was $35,733.57. $14,233.57 will be accepted into Project Read’s donation account. The remaining net income from the Trivia Challenge in the amount of $21,500 will be used to amend the Library Department’s FY 2023-24 budget to support books for learners ($8,000), staff development ($7,500), program promotion/marketing ($1,000), and equipment ($5,000). Donations and sponsorships for the 30th Anniversary of the Annual Trivia Challenge include:

FISCAL IMPACT
The Library Department’s current FY 2023-24 Operating Budget will be amended to reflect donations, sponsorships, and proceeds from the 2023 Trivia Challenge, with $14,233.57 accepted into the Project Read donations account and $21,500 accepted as a FY 2023-24 budget amendment for Project Read expanded program activities. Funds as part of the $21,500 budget amendment not expended in FY 2023-24 will be carried over into FY 2024-25.
RELATIONSHIP TO STRATEGIC PLAN
Strengthening of learning programs is an action item in the City’s Strategic Plan under Priority #2: Quality of Life.
CONCLUSION
Receipt of these funds will enable the Library Department to enhance Project Read programs for children, families, and adults. It is recommended that the City Council accept $35,733.57 in donations, sponsorships, and proceeds from Project Read’s 30th Annual Trivia Challenge and amend the Library Department’s FY 2023-24 Operating Budget by $21,500 pursuant to Budget Amendment Number 24.040.
