Resolution supporting SamTrans in working with Caltrans and the City of South San Francisco through Caltrans’ Project Development Process to plan, design, and implement Complete Street improvements on El Camino Real in South San Francisco.

WHEREAS, El Camino Real (State Route 82) is a major transportation corridor in the City of South San Francisco that serves all modes of transportation and connects multiple jurisdictions; and
WHEREAS, El Camino Real is under Caltrans’ jurisdiction and improvements require coordination through the Caltrans Project Development Process (PDP); and
WHEREAS, the City of South San Francisco has developed the El Camino Real Mobility Plan, which identifies corridor-wide improvements to improve safety and multimodal access for pedestrians, bicyclists, transit riders, drivers, commercial vehicles, and emergency vehicles in South San Francisco; and
WHEREAS, the San Mateo County Transit District (SamTrans) has led the Grand Boulevard Initiative Action Plan that provides a coordinated multi-agency framework for corridor improvements; and
WHEREAS, effective improvements require coordination among cities and public agencies along the corridor; and
WHEREAS, the City supports Complete Streets improvements that improve safety and accessibility for all users and improved transit performance and recognizes the importance of continued coordination and collaboration to advance transportation safety and mobility within the project corridor.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED, that the City Council of the City of South San Francisco hereby supports SamTrans advancing efforts with Caltrans and the City of South San Francisco through the Caltrans’ Project Development Process to plan, design, and implement Complete Streets improvements on El Camino Real in South San Francisco.
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the City Council supports coordination with other cities and public agencies along the El Camino Real corridor.
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the El Camino Real improvements will be guided by the South San Francisco El Camino Real Mobility Plan and the Grand Boulevard Initiative Action Plan.
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the City Manager or authorized designee is directed to coordinate with partner agencies and support project advancement of multimodal improvements to El Camino Real in South San Francisco.
