Title

Resolution accepting $250,398.57 from the California Highway Patrol in grant funding made available through the Cannabis Tax Fund Grant Program to be used for personnel overtime and equipment expenses and to amend the Police Department’s Operating Budget for Fiscal Year 2026-27 by approving Budget Amendment Number 27.003.

WHEREAS, staff recommends the acceptance of a grant in the amount of $250,398.57 for personnel overtime and equipment expenses from the CHP in grant funding made available through CTFGP; and

WHEREAS, the goal of this grant is intended to work with law enforcement agencies to develop an effective, comprehensive, and strategic approach to reduce impaired driving crashes and increase public awareness surrounding the dangers of impaired driving; and

WHEREAS, to make California roadways a safer place to travel; and

WHEREAS, this is the second time the Police Department has applied for and received grant funding through CTFGP; and

WHEREAS, this resolution will allow the department to expand DUI enforcement operations at no cost to the Police Department or the City of South San Francisco; and

WHEREAS, grant funds in the amount of $114,375.84 utilizing GL 100-12999-4101 will pay for overtime salaries for personnel to conduct at least two (2) DUI Checkpoints and at least sixteen (16) DUI Saturation Patrols; and

WHEREAS, grant funds in the amount of $136,022.73 utilizing GL 100-12999-5021 will pay to acquire a TruNarc Narcotics Analyzer, and acquire and outfit two (2) DUI Enforcement Motorcycles; and

WHEREAS, the grant funding will be used to augment the operating budget of the Police Department for Fiscal Year 2026-27.

NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the City Council of the City of South San Francisco hereby accepts the $250,398.57 grant from the California Highway Patrol made available through the Cannabis Tax Fund Grant Program and amends the Fiscal Year 2026-27 Police Department’s Operating Budget to reflect an increase of $250,398.57.

BE FURTHER RESOLVED that the City Council does hereby approve Budget Amendment Number 27.003.

BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the City Manager or designee of the City of South San Francisco is hereby authorized to execute a grant agreement and any other necessary documents on the behalf of the City to carry out the intent of this resolution, subject to approval as to form by the City Attorney, and to take any other action consistent with the intent of this Resolution.
