Resolution of the City Council of the City of South San Francisco authorizing the submittal of a grant application for the Safe Streets for All Grant Program for the Junipero Serra Boulevard and Westborough Boulevard Pedestrian and Bicycle Connectivity and Safety Project.
Body
WHEREAS, the City of South San Francisco (City) has identified Junipero Serra Boulevard and Westborough Boulevard as challenging corridors for residents who want to use alternative modes of transportation such as walking or biking to reach important destinations in the City; and
WHEREAS, the City intends to provide safe alternate modes of transportation for pedestrians and bicyclists through the Junipero Serra Boulevard and Westborough Boulevard Pedestrian and Bicycle Connectivity and Safety Project; and
WHEREAS, the Bicycle and Pedestrian Master Plan, known as Active South City, has identified the Junipero Serra Boulevard and Westborough Boulevard Pedestrian and Bicycle Connectivity and Safety Project as a priority project because the existing conditions of the project do not align with the safety, comfort, and equitable mobility goals set by Active South City for active transportation; and
WHEREAS, the Bipartisan Infrastructure Law established the Safe Streets and Roads for All grant program, which provides grants to regional, local, and Tribal entities to prevent roadway deaths and serious injuries; and
WHEREAS, staff recommends City Council authorize the submittal of a grant application to the Safe Streets for All grant program in order to support the development of the Junipero Serra Boulevard and Westborough Boulevard Pedestrian and Bicycle Connectivity and Safety Project.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED, that the City Council of the City of South San Francisco hereby authorizes the City Manager, or his/her designee, to submit an application for the Safe Streets for All Grant Program.
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the City Council authorizes the City Manager to take any other related actions consistent with the intention of the resolution.
