Recommendation
It is recommended that the City Council adopt a resolution approving the acceptance of a donation from Genentech, Inc. for its Genentech Gives Back Week program in the amount of $49,614.66 and amending the Parks and Recreation Department Operating Budget pursuant to Budget Amendment Number 27.008.

BACKGROUND/DISCUSSION
As part of its long-standing commitment to community engagement and environmental stewardship, Genentech regularly partners with local governments and nonprofit organizations through its corporate giving and employee volunteer programs. For many years, Genentech has partnered with the South San Francisco Parks and Recreation Department to give back to the community they call home.
On June 2, 2026, the City and Genentech partnered on a community benefit initiative known as Genentech Gives Back Week. Through this partnership, Genentech provided both financial support and employee volunteer teams to complete two key projects: painting the letters on Sign Hill and building greenhouses in Orange Memorial Park. Approximately 150 volunteers and 15 City staff participated, split between both project locations.
The greenhouses donated by Genentech and constructed by volunteers will serve the community by supporting educational programming and volunteerism in support of City parks and providing space for plant propagation for City landscaping projects and Sign Hill habitat restoration work. Volunteers assigned to Sign Hill painted the City's historic letters in recognition of the America 250 celebration. They also provided materials for the letters to be repainted white later in the year, also planned to be completed by volunteer forces. Funding covers expenses related to both projects.
FISCAL IMPACT
Acceptance of this donation has no impact to the General Fund. The donation is valued at $49,614.66, plus the value of their volunteer labor. No matching City funds or additional appropriations are required to accept this contribution or complete projects associated with this funding.
RELATIONSHIP TO CITY COUNCIL PRIORITIES ACTION PLAN
Acceptance of this funding will contribute to the City Council major focus areas of “Infrastructure and the Environment” as well as “Quality of Life” by supporting initiatives and improvements in park spaces that benefit residents.

It is recommended that the City Council adopt a resolution approving the acceptance of a donation from Genentech, Inc. for its Genentech Gives Back Week in the amount of $49,614.66. Staff appreciates Genentech’s continued support of City services.
